People who have cancer but fight for remission are called survivors.
People who have a loved one commit suicide are also called survivors.
What about those who have fought the darkness and haven't ended it? What do we call them?
Fighters? Lucky? Dead Men Walking?
I will never, EVER blame someone for killing themselves. I don't admire them, but I get it.
Somehow I'm still here.
Last year I went to the ASFP's Out of the Darkness Walk. At this one table they had markers and paper asking, "Why are you walking?"
I wrote "because I'm still here."
The tension between morning, understand, and fighting is strong.
I don't have answers.
